Week of Jan. 8th, 2012 r a n d o m arts Newsletter Assorted goods for creative mindfulness
Hello from Saluda, I am so excited about getting started with new workshops, plans, ideas and events for this month and for February.
So I started thinking about all the things that I love to do and of course the first thing that came to my mind was art journaling, painting and books and of course art swaps. Wow. is that all I like to do?
Nonetheless, it's a beginning and with February being Art Journal month I can see nothing better than to start it off with an Art journal series of workshops for that month. Dates and times are listed below.
Remember in my last newsletter I mentioned "simplicity with a twist". It still resonates with me as work on the schedule for the rest of this month, so when you see a workshop that you like, you can be assured that I have included some sort of twist to it. Looking forward to seeing you soon Jane
PS. Big Brother/Big Sister program is inviting all of us to participate in a fundraiser art project. I have 2 large ceramic hearts (I can get more hearts) crafted by local potter, Jim Cornell that are available to transform as you see fit and then displayed at the Upstairs Gallery in Tryon and then auctioned off to support this cause. The hearts are about 6x8" and are completely white and unadorned. Great way to get your art and your name out there and support the Big Sister-Big Brother program. Contact me to arrange to get your heart or gcpdacey@windstream.net

r a n d o m arts Newsletter Assorted goods for creative mindfulness Hello and Happy New Year,
How exciting for all us to get started on some great changes in this new year. From all of us at Random Arts It's always difficult for me to pinpoint any one specific thing that I want to improve upon when I start thinking of new years resolutions. There seems to be a multitude of changes so I am just going to try and do all things better. How's that for a resolution? Better communication, better listening, better time management and so on and so on.
With that said, the new schedule of workshops will be posted soon as I start to complete a wide range of new projects from books, to soldering to stamp carving. Again, it seems like there is so much to choose from when it comes to workshops and I want to keep it simple, from the heart and nurturing when we come together to learn and be more creative. That's what I like best... "simplicity with a twist".
Thanks for all of your support throughout this past year. It's been fun seeing all of you again after our brief "seclusion" off Main St. I am so happy to be sharing our brand new creative space with all of you... Read on to see what else we have to offer in this new year. From all of us at Random Arts
For years, both Paul and I have been using and creating with Mystery Foam and it seems that we can find more and more creative things to do with it. So, thanks to Michelle Tennant Nicholson, owner of Wasabi Publicity, we filmed my very first "You Tube Video" this past Saturday. Positively ad hoc & spur of the moment, as you will see, but totally interesting to say the least. Now that I have one video completed, there will be more to come, as the ideas for part 2, 3, and 4 are underway. r a n d o m arts Newsletter Assorted goods for creative mindfulness Hi everyone,
With the Saluda Hometown Christmas event behind us now we can start to focus on what's in store for us in 2012. I know, I know....... it's not quite that time yet but it's never too l early to start planning that workshop calendar for next year.
With that said, I am thinking about doing 2 - 2 hour workshops twice a week. One on Thursday and the other on Saturday. It will be a good idea to check your calendar and ours from time to time to make sure that you don't miss anything that you have been jonesing to do. This could be anything from soldering 102, to collage 101, to zendoodling, to bookbinding and everything in between. This should allow all of us, with cabin fever, in January to get out of the house and play.
All of these workshops will be added to our website and of course emails.
In the meantime, please have a great holiday and be safe.
Peace to all, from all of us at Random Arts.

Hi everyone, Looks like the season is definitely upon us here in our quaint little town in the mountains of North Carolina as those little white holiday lights line the buildings on Main Street.
So often I think about how fortunate we are to have "found" Saluda in such a random turn of events. We never ever heard of Saluda, or knew much about North Carolina for that matter, but when that hurricane threatened to keep us from a road trip from Chicago to the Outer Banks we were forced to flee inland. That was in 1993 and that led us to Little Switzerland, which led us to Burnsville which in turn led us to Tryon and then... magically, we found Saluda. Crazy but true, we bought a house right then and there, sold a house in the Chicago area, quit our jobs, turned in company cars, cell phones, pagers, expense reports and of course, my Ferragamo shoes and Coach handbags...all within 8 weeks. The rest is history and here we are, 18 years later and a real part of this beautiful community of 600 that we call home.
We've had our share of minor disappointments along the way but isn't that the way it always is? Most times things happen for a reason and not knowing at the time what that reason is or might be is part of story... part of the chapter so to speak. We wouldn't be here in this great new space if things remained the same, right?
We are not the only ones that find Saluda appealing as it is always a favorite stopping point for lots of travelers, as we have the notoriety of at least 3 or 4 great restaurants in this tiny little mountain town. That, plus the members of the community that are here, whenever you need a helping hand. So, thanks to Saluda, for being here and thanks for all of you who keep us going here at Random Arts
Look for our festively adorned with seasonal decor on our front porch, the aquatint pillars and the bright orange door. As you drive into town from I-26, you will find us on the left just before the T intersection of 176. We are open Thurs. Fri. and Sat. from 10-5.
